Trilbyana scrapbooks, 1894-1897.

The collection consists of three scrapbooks (vol. 1 is not extant) containing a collection of materials on George DuMaurier's novel, Trilby, and on the play by Paul M. Potter based on the novel. Includes newspaper and magazine clippings, theatre programs, pictures of the actors, and pamphlets. Also, separately includes one piece of sheet music and one pamphlet. Volume 2: Reviews of the play; interview with Du Maurier, 1895; Hooley's Theatre, Chicago, and Garden Theatre, New York, programs, 1895; eight albumen prints (six autographed) of actors in New York production; Joseph Gilder Benson's Trilbyana (New York: Critic Co., 1895), number 68 of 250; and James SchoĢˆnberg's The comparative "Trilby" glossary (New York: J.H. Hovendon, 1896). Volume 3: Trilby calendar, 1896; reviews of the play; words and music to "Ben Bolt;" catalogue of pen and ink drawings by Du Maurier exhibited at the Avery Art Galleries, New York, 1894; four albumen prints by W.M. Morrison of actress as Trilby, 1895; clippings about the novel, 1894-1896; letter from A.C. McClurg & Co., Chicago, booksellers, 9 May 1896, to Dewitt Miller, reporting sales of 15,000 copies of Trilby; and A souvenir of "Trilby" by Paul M. Potter, Theatre Royal, Haymarket, 30 Oct. 1895, with seven printed photos of actors. Volume 4: Etching of Du Maurier's house in Hampstead Heath; magazine article about the song, "Ben Bolt," 1897; reviews of the play, 1897; and Du Maurier's obituary, 1896. Folder 1: John G. Hawley's An appendix to Trilby, translations and notes (Detroit, Mich.: Richmond & Backus, 1895), and the sheet music to Nelson Kneass's Ben Bolt, or, Oh! don't you remember?
